Job overview

The Job holder is responsible for a managed caseload working closely with the
Paediatrician with expertise in cardiology (PEC). The jobholder carries responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care and advice to this specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the specialty service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be from the background of paediatrics and will support the PEC and Congenital Heart Disease Network in the Outpatients clinics and Wards providing direct patient care & advice for those children with congenital heart disease and their families. They will support the education of the MDT team specifically about congenital heart disease. They will contribute to data collection and audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Acts in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct
  • Provide a clinical lead in the cardiology service and role model to nursing staff by delivering high quality care.
  • Support the PEC outpatient clinics
  • Assist in the assessment of the child and family in the clinic setting
  • Be a local contact for children with congenital heart disease and their families
  • Facilitate tests and feedback results to families following advice from the PEC
Person specification QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
  • Registered Children's Nurse
  • NMC registration
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Willing to undergo training as required
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
  • Significant Band 5 or equivalent post-registration experience
  • Knowledge of cardiology within the CHD Network
  • Current issues in healthcare
  • Standards of professional practice

  • IT Skills
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
