Description

Eliada Homes, a historical fixture within Western North Carolina since 1903, is one Asheville's longest running nonprofits. Our beautiful 300+ acre campus provides a cradle to career continuum of services for over 600 children and youth annually. Child Development staff work with children up to 5 years of age providing them with services which focus on social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development while integrating life-skills into our daily activities and lessons.

Requirements

Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistant supports operations, classrooms, children, and teachers through the implementation of activity plans, record keeping, care and supervision of children in the classroom, and communicating with parents and administrative staff. Major Responsibilities:
  • Teacher Assistants assist lead teachers and teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate activity plans for children in the classroom according to current standards.
  • Teacher Assistants assist lead teachers and teachers in ensuring that children's physical, emotional, and educational needs are met through close visual supervision and observation of group, frequent one-on-one interactions with individual children, and communication with parents, care-givers, and other staff.
  • Teacher Assistants assist lead teachers and teachers in ensuring that necessary classroom records/documents are kept current, organized, on file, and posted. Assist lead teachers in ensuring that classroom materials and supplies remain adequate by restocking from resource/supply room.
  • Teacher Assistants assist lead teachers and teachers in ensuring that licensing, safety, and sanitation standards are maintained in the classroom.
  • Teacher Assistants assist lead teachers and teachers in providing orientation and training for substitute teachers regarding functions and operations specific to the classroom.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required.

Must have Early Childhood credentials, enrolled in Early Childhood courses, and 6 additional credit hours of Early Childhood Education.
