Under direction of the Childcare Director, the Cook is expected to be responsible for the preparation and cooking of food to the highest standards to ascertain an efficient food service. Will maintain the high standards of presentation of food and buffets. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

What is needed for this job: - At least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, culinary certification preferred
- 1-2 years of experience with volume cooking and dietary restrictions, banquets, safe food handling practices, fresh food prep, food cost control, cross utilization, waste management
- Serve-Safe Certification preferred
The responsibilities we will trust you with: - Read and be accountable for YMCA Policies, State Licensing Body (PA- DHS / NJ-NJ OOL) regulations, and Quality Rating System standards (Example: NAEYC, Keystone STARS, Grow NJ Kids).
- Responsible for high standards of food preparation, food service and presentation, as well as cleaning procedures
- Is able to use all equipment and materials correctly
- Create and distribute weekly menu
- Maintain copies of ALL recipes on file for easy access and provide a copy to director.
- Create and maintain food and supply inventory sheet
- Order food and supplies on a weekly basis
- Receive/check in weekly order & place items in the proper designated location
- Follow proper guidelines for the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Child and Adult Food Service Program (CACFP)
- Starts preparations for the next day's service
- Maintains a clean work station
- Takes part in food storage quality and quantity controls when required. Date necessary products as they arrive (can goods). Rotate products as needed.
- Puts forth every effort to minimize spoilages and utilize food surpluses and shares suggestions for improvements in materials, menus, cost savings and equipment
- Assures food requests and dietary requirements are executed
- Is aware of and follows Public Health Requirements
- Is aware of and follows all fire, safety and emergency procedures
- Maintain knowledge of Association policies and procedures, risk management, safety practices and applicable laws.
