The Chief of Staff will be a key and trusted advisor to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) and will play a critical role in bringing the Executive Leadership team under the CRO's department together across various functions to help accelerate progress, and to ensure the CRO's team runs a dynamic, thoughtful, and disciplined business.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ideal candidate is a proven relationship builder, versatile, forward thinking, and intellectually curious who can develop trust and communicate effectively with key leaders and employees across the organization as well as externally in the NBA and the broader industry. The Chief of Staff will be expected to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, be proactive and anticipatory in growing the business, and help the leadership team achieve its priorities. This role will handle several critical responsibilities across the entirety of the organization/department with a focus on facilitating more effective decision, information and timing processes with the Executive Leadership team and their departments to grow the organization's business.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work closely with the CRO on implementing pivotal day-to-day priorities as well as cultivating strategic initiatives across sales, marketing, arena operations, business operations and business development.
  • Serve as a resource and sounding board to the CRO to provide an objective, independent perspective on ideas and issues impacting the organization.
  • Engage with and facilitate optimization of the cross-departmental and organizational initiatives of the Executive Leadership team, fostering operating cadences that maximize organizational communication, planning, decision-making and results.
  • Attend meetings, provide direction, and address inquiries or issues on behalf of the CRO.
  • Act as a thought and accountability partner to the Executive Leadership team supporting their most impactful and highest leverage priorities.
  • Successfully lead and execute key initiatives end-to-end including discovery, design, delivery, and adoption.
  • Be accountable for P&L for key ancillary lines of business and manage certain staff members with responsibilities for those business lines.
  • Plan and develop agendas and presentation materials for key meetings.
  • As appropriate, document and communicate decisions and action items from meetings.
  • Ensure follow-up and closure of action items.
  • Share information and learnings across teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline or prior work experience in one or more of these disciplines.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience engaging and excelling in large-scale, cross-organizational, complex enterprise programs or projects utilizing internal and third-party resources including leadership experience.
  • Independent self-starter who operates at a high level in ambiguity, and does not require heavy direction to successfully achieve their day-to-day goals.
  • Experience in effectively interacting with executives and senior leaders, especially managing up to senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • A good sounding board for others with the ability to anticipate the needs of busy executives and their direct staff & anticipate pockets of ambiguity.
  • Experience of building effective business processes for diverse teams.
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form; ability to work well with executives, and able to orchestrate and influence across multiple levels and multiple functions of an organization in a concise manner.
  • Comfortable presenting and communicating to large groups and across all levels of the organization in an effective, situationally appropriate, clear and thoughtful manner.
  • Ability and emotional maturity to work in a productive and cooperative way with a variety of people ranging internally from VPs to individual contributors and support staff and externally from fans to sponsors to third party vendors to NBA staff and officials.
  • Highest level of integrity; emotional intelligence and management of confidential information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree in business administration or a graduate degree in a related discipline.
  • Prior experience reporting directly to Executive Leadership.
  • Hands-on, entrepreneurial style with a strong bias for action and results; thrives in unstructured environments with a focus on innovation; collaborative and without ego.
