The ideal candidate will be a board-certified Hematologist/Oncologist with a passion for patient care and a proven ability to lead. Responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of activities, including:
- Clinical Excellence: Maintaining active clinical practice, providing inpatient, outpatient, and procedural Hematology/Oncology services.
- Education & Mentorship: Supervising and instructing Internal Medicine residents and Hematology/Oncology Fellows, providing constructive feedback to foster their growth.
- Leadership & Oversight: Providing leadership and direction to the Hematology/Oncology Section, collaborating with the Associate Chief of Staff, Medical Service, to ensure efficient and effective patient care delivery.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Working with administrative staff to manage staffing plans, monitor quality metrics, and address patient advocacy issues.
- Research & Innovation: Overseeing research activities within the department and potentially dedicating time to personal research endeavors.
- Community Engagement: Regular travel to the Austin Outpatient Clinic may be required for outpatient care and staff supervision.
The Central Texas VA is seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- Board Certification in Hematology/Oncology.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction within a complex organization.
- Exceptional skills in providing compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care.
- Minimum of four years of post-fellowship experience in clinical oncology.
- Proficiency in bone marrow biopsy procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences.
The Central Texas VA Health Care System offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive total rewards package, including:

- Competitive Pay: Salary Range: $320,000-$360,000. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay. A competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
