Job Title: High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach

Classification: Licensed/Extra Comp

Supervisor: Building Principal

Days: 190

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Cheerleading Coach shall be a person who teaches and supervises students outside of regularly scheduled class time. They will work with the Head Cheerleading Coach, other students, teachers, administrators, parents, and other community members to promote a successful and adequate school-life experience for young people under their charge. This assignment may require work beyond the regular school year.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Assistant Cheerleading Coach is responsible to the building principal and works cooperatively with the Head Cheerleading Coach.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Assistant Cheerleading Coach supervises and directs the cheer program for their assigned students. (i.e., JV, Frosh)
  • Attends all football and basketball games as directed by the building principal.
  • Coordinates the cheering section and half-time entertainment as they affect the squad.
  • Travels with the squad to all out-of-town games as directed by the building principal.
  • Makes transportation arrangements as necessary.
  • Composes and submits all bulletins for daily announcements about cheer activities.
  • Attends pep assemblies as directed by the building principal.
  • Organizes and works with the squad during homecoming week as directed by the Head Cheerleading Coach.
  • Works with the Head Cheerleading Coach to organize and conduct selections for next year's squad in the spring and/or fall.
  • Arranges the squad's training camp.
  • Coordinates and is present at all fund-raising activities.
  • Works cooperatively with the Head Cheerleading Coach with the ordering and designing of all uniforms used at that level.
  • Meets with parents to discuss expectations and responsibilities of being a cheer squad member.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:
  • Guidance and counseling with children and adults.
  • Community resources and agencies.
  • Current techniques and procedures.
Skills:
  • Ability to work effectively with people.
  • Ability to handle details of the assignment.
Attitudes:
  • Interest and enthusiasm for the assignment.
Education and Experience:
  • Previous experience as a cheerleading coach is desirable.
  • Valid teaching certificate desired.
