Position Objective:
Coordinates daily operating room schedule; the supervision and efficient use of human and material resources and the provision of safe, high quality, patient centered nursing care with a shared governance model and approach.

- Plans, directs and monitors delivery of quality patient care.
- Appropriately communicates issues identified preoperatively resulting in no delays to surgical procedure.
- Level of safety and sanitation maintained without harm to patients, visitors or staff and effective resolutions are attained as needed.
- Identifies and reports appropriately, any potential/actual quality improvement issues within estimated time frame.
- Observes and monitors quality of staff performance/physician activities that prevent harm or injury to the patient and reports up chain of command or established reporting system.
- Delegates tasks appropriate to unit personnel in order to facilitate schedule - minimal to no nursing delays in planned surgery.
- Coordinates and communicates effectively between OR, short stay and PACU all potential or actual patient problems that may affect the daily activities within the suite and that may impact the timeliness and quality of patient care.
- Coordinates and communicates with ancillary departments to maintain cooperative working environment.
- Ability to report and align with anesthesia and work collaboratively in making decisions with the prioritization of cases for efficiency, safety and throughput.
- Assist with patient care activities as needs arises.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- BSN
- Clinical experience in the Operating Room.
- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide quality care services for special age specific populations, such as, but not limited to pediatrics and geriatric patients. Knowledge of AORN, OSHA and Joint Commission standards and support implementation of these initiatives to maintain compliance. Knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique for infection control purposes.
- Familiarity with SSURGE project initiatives and awareness of metrics for turnover times, first case starts and room readiness.
Required License/Certifications:
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
- American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS.
Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands -
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
