Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Type: 13 Weeks Contract

Shifts: Monday-Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM


Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. This essential role supports operating rooms and procedural areas by maintaining the availability and integrity of critical surgical tools. Ideal for professionals with a strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual and mechanical cleaning of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper functionality, and defects.
  • Reassemble and package instruments accurately and efficiently according to protocols and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
  • Sterilize instrument sets using approved methods and document sterilization parameters.
  • Operate electronic equipment to inspect electrosurgical instruments and cables.
  • Restock Specialty Carts and Omnicells as needed.
  • Pick and prepare supplies for same-day and next-day surgical cases.
  • Accurately document completed work in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Information System.
  • Respond to STAT and ASAP needs in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Answer phone calls and assist both internal and external customers with professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Must hold CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician).
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and sterile processing best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks and working in high-pressure situations.
  • Able to perform with minimal errors in a time-sensitive environment.
