We're seeking passionate Personal Trainers to work with diverse clients, from beginners to fitness fanatics, helping them reach their goals. Make a meaningful impact on your community at the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA.
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but not limited to:- Evaluates the participant's fitness level through a fitness evaluation or assessment.
- Assists the participant in creating goals that are achievable.
- Creates a program and makes recommendations that are within the personal trainer's expertise.
- Monitors the progress of the members throughout the training program continuously modifying the programs to achieve the stated goals.
- Provides continuous education regarding "risk factor" modification and pre-established goal accomplishments to participants.
- Demonstrates confidentiality between the personal trainer and member.
- Adheres to the Association operating policies and procedures by operating the programs within the guidelines set forth.
- Ensures that the highest quality of service is provided.
- Continuously monitors the member's progress and makes changes as needed to achieve goals.
- Continuous personal education to maintain industry standards and current certification(s).
- Completes all job-related and other trainings as required.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Level of Personal Trainer level is based on the following criteria:- Personal Trainer I with less than 600 hours of previous training experience.
- Personal Trainer II requires more than 600 hours of previous training experience, or a bachelors/master's degree in Exercise Science or a health-related field.
This pay scale is based on job title and number of hours trained per pay period.

RequirementsEducation/Experience Required: - Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a Personal Trainer certification from one of the accredited national personal training organizations.
- Knowledge and application of wellness, primarily physical fitness and an understanding of how to set basic fitness goals.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience of personal training techniques and practices.
- Experience with active listening techniques and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with groups and/or individuals from different backgrounds.
- Represent the YMCA in a positive manner.
- Personal Trainer I requires less than 600 hours of previous training experience.
- Personal Trainer II requires more than 600 hours of previous training experience, or a bachelors/masters degree in Exercise Science or a health-related field.
Certifications/Trainings Required: - Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in community CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Maintain position-specific required certifications as stated in the training matrix.

- Ability to lift equipment and perform all physical aspects of the position, including, but not limited to, leading class, walking, standing, bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the program environment, including in the classroom and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
- Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme humidity/dampness, heat and cold.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
