POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for care of patients and related medical and clerical support functions. These support functions will vary but will include accompanying patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, performing and documenting vital signs, assisting with procedures, preparing and administering medications with physician's authorization, performing EKGs, using CPR skills when required, drawing blood, and providing patient education with regards to office policies, medication, and management of disease, home treatments, and special diets. Responsible for stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms, cleaning instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards, and performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times, and adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Responsible for pre-registering and scheduling moderately complex procedures and coordinating multiple resources for patient services. May also perform duties for prior authorization, referrals (incoming/outgoing), good faith estimates, and/or payment collections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Rooming patients and performing data collections, vitals, EMR input
- Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence
- Assisting physician with patient set-up and preparations
- Compile and summarize information for care providers
- Triaging incoming phone calls
- Preparing and administering medications with physician's authorization
- Completing medical forms and obtaining referrals / authorizations
- Retrieval of lab and x-ray reports
- Calling in prescriptions
- Providing patient education with regards to diagnosis mgt, medication mgt, home treatment, and diets
- Ordering medical and office supplies
- Cleaning and stocking exam rooms
- Cleaning instruments and disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years of related customer facing experience, preferably in healthcare.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION :
- Certification from nationally recognized agency, required. Accepted agencies and certifications include:
- National Healthcareer Association - Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA)
- American Medical Technologists - Medical Assistant (RMA)
- National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case-by-case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.

• Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, patients' families/visitors and clinical staff.
• Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and with meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrate a strong ability to use initiative and judgment and to identify, analyze and solve problems.
