MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is looking for a Locum Cardiac Anesthesiologist to fill their need.

Dates of coverage:
•  May 27 week
•  June 9 week
•  June 23 week
•  June 30 week
•  July 7 week
•  July 31 week
•  Dec 26 week Details:
•  Growing hospital cardiac surgery program
•  Trauma Level II
•  Practice Setting: Hospital based. On rare occasions may need to oversee CRNAs at the ASC if no cardiac cases are scheduled and a physician is needed at the ASC location.
•  Documentation System/EMR: Cerner - moving to EPIC, some paper
•  Average Number of Surgical Cases Per Day: Cardiac surgeries 1/day, but not every day; 5-7 general cases/day. Must help cover general if no cardiac cases.
•  Number of Anesthesiologists in Practice: 6
•  Patient Age Demographic: Adolescent, Child, Adult, Geriatric. Very sick children are sent to other hospitals better staffed/equipped for children.
•  Number of Operating Rooms: 8 in use at one time
•   Cannot accept visa candidates
•  Estimated Credentialing Timeframe: 8 - 12 weeks Questions answered by facility:
•   Can you speak to the staffing model/supervision/direction/solo cases etc? The group practice is predominantly solo cases, but they do have CRNA students rotating through, so the cardiac anesthesiologist needs to be okay with students in the operating room with him/her. If there is any supervision/direction, the partners will oversee that. If there are no cardiac surgeries scheduled, the locum would be expected to take on general cases until the next scheduled heart case.
•   Can you confirm how many pump cases/open heart cases are performed per year? The program has had hiccups the last 4-5 years with providers coming and going and trying to fill-in with locums. The hospital signed late last fall a cardiac surgeon to a 5 year contract, so there is hope the program will now stabilize. They are projecting 90 hearts this year. Submission Requirements
•  Board Certified in Cardiac Anesthesiology ( will also consider Board Eligible)
•  Active Iowa license or IMLC
•  TEE Certified (must be able to read, interpret, and bill TEE procedures - NOT just the placement of the probe)
•  Cardiac Fellowship (extensive experience would be acceptable if TEE certified)
•  BLS, ACLS, PALS
•  COVID Vaccinated
•   Must be available on the dates needed coverage About MercyOne North Iowa:
