We offer indoor rock climbing, high-end fitness equipment, classes, personal training, and yoga at each of our locations. OVERVIEW

FA Climbing & Fitness is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Summer Camp Instructor. FA has a robust summer camp that operates inside of our Youth program. The program runs 5 days a week for 10 weeks in the summer from June 16 to August 22 (no camp July 4), serving campers ages 5 to 14. Instructors are responsible for a group of 4 to 6 students throughout the camp day, ensuring that campers are safely and appropriately able to move through activities according to the camp schedule. Instructors provide support through daily activities (lunch, breaks, climb times, free times, arts & crafts, games, etc), provide climbing feedback, and run large group games. Instructors are responsible for ensuring students are using best practices for climbing safety, and coordinating with the Youth Program Coordinator to ensure day-to-day operations of summer camp are running smoothly.

Instructors will arrive at the gym by 8:45 am Monday through Friday to prepare for camp to begin at 9am. The camp day ends at 4:45pm, and instructors should plan to spend 15 to 30 minutes cleaning up each day.

Instructors may work a half-day (8:45am to 1pm, or 1pm to 5:15pm), or a full-day starting at 8:45am and ending at approximately 5:15pm (full-day instructors will have breaks, including a 30 min. unpaid lunch). Instructors can work a maximum of 30 hours a week for the duration of camp. This position will report to the Youth Program Coordinator. Ideal candidates will have consistent availability during all 10 weeks of camp.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute daily activities according to the camp schedule
  • Ensure camper safety by following camp policies
  • Implement creative and flexible changes when necessary to maintain camper engagement and adapt to the needs of the gym
  • Report on needs and successes to the Youth Program Coordinator
  • Independently run daily climbing lessons and activities
  • Effectively communicate with co-instructors and Youth Program Coordinator
  • Respond to physical and emotional needs of campers
  • Assist in setting and cleaning up camp activities
REQUIREMENTS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Applicants must be able to work a minimum of 3 weeks of camp - preference will be given to applicants with more than 3 weeks of availability
  • The ideal applicant will have previous experience teaching rock climbing to children
  • 1 year of experience working with children is required
  • 6 months or more of personal climbing experience is required
  • High level of energy to match the energy of kids who are always "climbing the walls."
  • Communicate proactively with children and adults.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Most work to be done in climate-controlled indoor environment
  • Some time may be spent in an outdoor environment
  • Noise level ranges from moderate to loud
  • Employee must be able to concentrate through distractions and communicate effectively
