Calibration Laboratory Manager

Job Summary:

The Calibration Lab Manager oversees all activities within the calibration laboratory, ensuring that instruments and equipment are calibrated to industry standards and client specifications. This role is responsible for maintaining quality assurance, managing staff, optimizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 or other applicable standards. The Manager also supports business development by maintaining strong client relationships and expanding service offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the calibration laboratory, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Supervise and mentor calibration technicians and administrative staff; conduct performance reviews and training.
  • Ensure all calibrations are performed accurately, on time, and in accordance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain quality management systems in line with ISO/IEC 17025 and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, lead corrective and preventive action initiatives.
  • Maintain calibration equipment, standards, and laboratory environmental conditions.
  • Prepare technical reports, calibration certificates, and documentation for clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including procurement of equipment and materials.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Work closely with clients to define requirements, provide technical support, and resolve issues.
  • Identify opportunities to expand service capabilities and improve operational efficiency.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed based on business requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Metrology, Physics, or a related technical field (required); Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in calibration, metrology, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Deep knowledge of calibration techniques across multiple disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, dimensional, thermal).
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements and laboratory accreditation processes.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient in calibration management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in metrology or calibration (e.g., ASQ CCT - Certified Calibration Technician).
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing external audits and customer inspections.
  • Experience with Indysoft

Working Conditions:

  • Laboratory environment with occasional travel to customer sites.
  • May require occasional lifting of equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Exposure to a variety of industrial environments during onsite calibrations.
