Carries out a variety of routine tasks to insure the smooth operation of the cafeteria food service including preparation, set-up and serving of food. Operation of cash register and routine clean-up and maintenance of the cafeteria and dining room areas.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: - Sets up and prepares areas for service
- Opens and sets up the cafeteria line, referring to menus and catering event list to organize the day's routine.
- Prepares coffee, fills ice dispenser and cold display with ice. Sets out pastries, desserts, etc. as specified.
- Sets up hot station for meals, serves food to customers using proper utensils and portions.
- Sets up coffee carts.
- Sets up and delivers catering according to schedule. Breaks down and cleans catered area at event conclusion.
- Closes cafeteria on time. Breaks down and puts away food items at the conclusion of each meal. Cleans work area and dining room as specified.
Handles cash - Operates the cash register, charges appropriately for all items, collects money, and provides correct change. Rarely has a void.
- At conclusion of the meal period cashes out, accurately prepares cash reports as specified. Brings receipts and deposits to the Business Office cashier or Diet Office as directed.
- Does not leave cash register unattended without locking it.
- Does not leave loose change accumulated near the cash register
- Ensures that all items are paid for, by everyone, including department employees.
Provides excellent customer service - Provides excellent customer service
- Does not argue with customers. Refers problems immediately to a supervisor.
- Goes out of way to provide food items as requested by customer.
- Offers taste samples as directed to help customer make choices and promote sales.
Follows sanitation procedures - Cleans yogurt machine daily, or as directed.
- Cleans cafeteria work surfaces and counters, daily.
- Rotates all food items, according to policy.
- Cleans and maintains tray line and condiment areas.
Prepares food items - Prepares food items for the breakfast bar and the salad bar.
- Prepares puddings, cakes and pies for service.
Catering - Assists with cart delivery and room set-up.
- Assists as catered event server when needed.
Lead coverage (mark as non-applicable unless routinely scheduled to cover this role) - Acts as a lead person in absence of Cafeteria Supervisor including assigned work
- Assists Cafeteria Supervisor in troubleshooting and managing staff work flow.
Demonstrates dependability - Follows directions without repeated instruction.
- Completes assigned tasks correctly and within time frame.
- Follows safety and sanitation rules at all times.
- Is on duty and ready to work on time.
- Agrees to work when asked during staffing shortages.
- Follows the standards for acceptable attendance.
- Takes breaks only when own work and team's work is complete.
Demonstrates initiative - Initiates tasks without being told (knows and follows routine without reminders).
- Identifies potential problems and solves them effectively.
- Recognizes when someone needs help and assists without being asked.
- Recommends improvements to own job and the department's work in general.
QualificationsEducational / Minimum Requirements: - High School Diploma or GED is desired but not necessary.
- Food handling experience preferred
