Title: CAD Design Engineer IV

Location: Wilmington, NC

Duration: 6 Months

Summary:

  • Encompasses the use of integrated systems for computer-aided design, used for the systematic representation and dimensional specification of mechanical and architectural structures.
  • Provide mechanical equipment designs and layouts that meet client Machine Drafting Standards on CAD-based formats. (AutoCAD 2023, Inventor 2023)
  • Prepares drawings or schematics for mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems, equipment and structures.
  • Utilizes CAD digitizing techniques and skills.
  • Digitizes and edits integrated circuit drawings consisting of components and/or assemblies.
  • Makes engineering computations and prepares and revises specifications.
  • Assemble complete machine design packages from existing Plant files, checking drawings for accuracy and adding detail and assembly drawings where necessary.


Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of job and a substantial acquaintance with the general aspects of the job.
  • Intermediate level technical understanding. Implements standard procedures and proposes intermediate-level modifications to improve workflow.
  • Still generally obtains input to solve more complex problems.
  • Works under general site supervision.
  • Able to gather information independently using established and defined procedures.
  • Takes initiative in the area of continuous improvement.
  • Uses some discretion. Contacts are typically within the organization.
  • May occasionally have contacts with others outside of the organization to seek clarity or ask for interpretation.

Education:

  • Minimum of AAS required; AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)
  • Experience: 3 Years is a must

Top required Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD 2023, Inventor 2023
  • Proficient with pneumatic and electrical schematics
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators
  • Capable of generating a full drawing package for typical industrial equipment from assembly to detailed drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical equipment/systems to enable proper new designs or modifications to existing.
  • Routinely performs elementary design calculations; i.e., statics, hydraulics, power transmission, etc.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Ability to work in small teams with varied job requirements.


Equipment or software experience preferred:

  • Windows, MS Office suite including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, AutoCAD 2023, Vault, Inventor 2023


Travel Requirements:

  • There may be a need to travel to the Concord Plant to collect drawing/equipment information or similar at an equipment vendor, but this would be rare.
  • Position will require minimal time spent on the floor gathering info on existing equipment

Major Responsibilities: (Majority of time will be spent at a CAD station working on designs)

  • Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation cost, solve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs.
  • Create, review, and update installation documentation and drawings as required.
  • Redline existing drawings and follow-up with drafting services or oversee draftsmen as required to resolve design issues.
  • Execute changes in design to solve equipment/process issues.
  • Take personal responsibility for all aspects of ensuring designs meet form, fit, and function goals established by internal customers and project manager.
  • Provide sketches or marked-up drawings as dictated by project and evolutionary equipment needs.

Unique or special requirements:

  • Capable of generating a full drawing package for typical industrial equipment from assembly to detailed drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical equipment/systems to enable proper new designs or modifications to existing.
  • Routinely performs elementary design calculations; i.e., statics, hydraulics, power transmission, etc.

Equipment familiarization preferred:

  • Personal Computers
  • Precision measurement devices such as Tape measures, Calipers, Micrometers, etc.
  • Knowledge of operation or direct experience with machine shop and fabrication shop processes that aid design for efficient manufacture.

Additional Information:
The team is based in Wilmington, NC. Often, contractors who excel and are interested in continuing beyond the initial project may be considered for additional assignments. However, these additional projects may not be located at the same place as the initial posting. We have multiple plants in NC. Future travel requirements will vary based on project needs and locations.

(Hours will vary with no guarantee of OT, but 10- 20 hours per week is not uncommon and expected at times)
