Job Description

Purpose

Functions: Electrical, Electronics, or Combat Systems Engineer that supervises and engineering group in the development of the detailed design and technical support, including the investigation and resolution of system interface issues, for the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5I) systems. Responsible for the development of the detailed design, integration, and 3D model of marine craft's C5I systems.
  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, and weekends if necessary.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in resolving issues regarding day-to-day operations.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Dept.
  • Provide system integration and design technical support for the C5I Detail Design of the USCG Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) design.
  • Support a robust test program at a dedicated production facility in Panama City, shipboard, and Navy INSURV acceptance trials.
  • Maintain OPC C5I development in accordance with contract specifications, ABS, NVR, and ESG design specifications.
  • Maintain interface with C5I Manager on all aspects of C5I design.
  • Prepare reports and metrics on OPC C5I development progress.
  • Maintain, manage, and resolve integration and system engineering issues.
  • Supervise and lead a group of designers, drafters, and engineers in the C5I group, assigning tasks per schedule, and production needs and maintaining close tracks of hours used per assigned budget.
  • Apply standard design principles and theories to complete assignments.
  • Create and develop production/fabrication drawings of the C5I components.
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
  • Make required changes, additions, and/or revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Participation in the testing of marine crafts
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:No supervisory responsibilities.
  • May have team leadership responsibilities over employees. Will have mentorship responsibilities over junior employees.

Reporting Relationship
  • This position will report to the Engineering Group Manager

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Education/Experience: bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar discipline, and 5+ years cumulative experience in participation with any role in the acquisition, management, development, installation, or testing of C5I systems. Experience on a maritime vessel is preferred but not required. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered.

Required: Skills: Intermediate level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook experience required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, employees, and the public. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display attention to detail, and function as a team player.

Other Requirements: A combination of government and shipyard experience in large government shipbuilding (design/build) programs is preferred, other major defense programs will be considered. Experience working within the Earned Value Management System is also a plus.
