Job Summary The BYU Softball Assistant Coach will assist the Head Coach in organizing and directing a competitive Division I softball program. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to develop and provide guidance and instruction to players and assist with game strategies and planning.

Duties/Expectations: Player Development and Coaching - Under the Direction of the head coach, provide coaching in both a team and individual setting to improve hitting, pitching, and defensive skills
- Participate in the creation of practice plans, assist in game preparation, advise on game strategy, and provide direct coaching and assistance during games
- Run practice in the absence of the head coach
- Research and identify the latest trends and techniques in coaching and performing in softball
- Work closely with prospective, full-time, and return missionaries associated with the team in an effort to help them feel encouraged and connected amidst the transitions of a mission
- Assist in implementing strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at their best
- Monitor the eligibility status and promotes academic progress and success of student-athletes through their assigned team Academic Advisor and as directed by head coach
- Assist Head Coach in enforcing study hall attendance for student-athletes
- Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camp activities, as requested
- Assist Head Coach in developing and maintaining good alumni and booster relations
Assist in the recruitment and selection of student-athletes - Comply with NCAA guidelines for contacting and entertaining prospects
- Initiate the process for determining academic eligibility and issuing National Letters of Intent
- Help coordinate all on campus recruiting visits
- Responsible for mailing recruiting materials throughout year as directed by the head coach
- Participate in planning yearly recruiting calendar for coaching staff
- Demonstrate knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules/regulations
Fundraising/Community Support - Assist coaching staff with fundraising events such as golf tournaments and fundraising dinners
- Assist with any off-field activities as assigned by Head Coach in accordance with NCAA rule
- Plan and oversee various community service projects for the softball program
- Liaison between administration and players for career nights and job fairs
- Liaison between players and Marketing department
- Coordinate team and individual photo shoots with appropriate departments on campus
What Qualifies You to Apply? Required:
- Bachelor's degree (Must have required degree by start date)
- At least one year experience with collegiate softball or baseball hitting, pitching, and defense
- Willingness to uphold and live by the university's Honor Code
- All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of experience with collegiate softball or baseball
