About the Opportunity:Reporting to the department's Director and Manager, the Business Entrance Receptionist coordinates the California Academy of Sciences' business entrance lobby area. Greets and directs all visitors, including vendors, associates, clients, job candidates, and guests. Also, ensures completion of paperwork, sign-in, and security procedures. Handles special administrative projects, as well as overflow work from the Guest Experience department. This position has a 4-day, 32-hour-a-week schedule and requires daily attendance either working a workweek or weekend schedule depending on the business need arranged by the director/manager.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. This position is onsite at the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Please do not apply if you are not able to work onsite. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Service Employees International Union Local 1021. Candidates are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination, including receiving a booster shot, as a condition of employment, absent qualifying exemptions in accordance with applicable laws. About the Guest Experience Team:The Guest Experience team provides a platinum level of service to all of our visitors, members and beyond. Our team is responsible for overseeing public floor operations including the entryway, theaters, exhibits and various guest services. We are often responding to constantly changing operational needs and work closely as a team to solve problems. Our team is essential to creating a positive guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet employees and guests; inform the respective staff of their arrival.
  • Verify the status of persons visiting the non-public business areas of the museum, checking credentials, and logging guests in using the Envoy visitor management system.
  • Ensure all safety best practices are followed at the entrance; alert security of any activity that is not in alignment with our policies
  • Provide customer care, including but not limited to: Lost and Found, wheelchair requests, and VIP access to the museum area.
  • Maintain routine calendars and provide data entry in various department logs and databases as needed
  • Support Guest Experience management team in administrative functions, ordering supplies, processing credit card statements, and setting up appointments as needed
  • Provide guidance and train Guest Experience team members on the operations of the desk to ensure an excellent guest experience.
  • Follow all Academy safety regulations including assistance in emergency evacuation procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: A successful candidate will have the following:

Experience:
  • 1-2 years experience as a receptionist or in administrative position is encouraged, but not required
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are a must to assist a diverse audience
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-energy, public-facing environment
  • Ability to multi-task both working with staff and guests in person, over the phone and via email
  • Experience with Google Suite and other basic computer applications; experience with visitor management systems a plus
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, take initiative, and be adaptable
  • Available to work holidays, evenings and weekends are required or as needed
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals
Physical Environment:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. This position spends the majority of the day working in a fixed location at the reception desk and is frequently required to sit, use a computer, and communicate on the phone, through email, and in person. Must be able to perform repetitive motions 75% of the time.

Compensation and BenefitsHourly hiring/flat rate: $22.83 per hour
The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits.

Schedule: Full-Time, 32 hours per week, 4 days per week. Benefits will be determined based on hours per week worked.
