Summary
The Business Development Representative's primary function is the day-to-day marketing and customer-facing commercial and residential activities. This individual should be a motivated self-starter with excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills, as well as having experiences in the construction industry and/or project management. The Business Development Representative is expected to be a proficient communicator and to develop and foster meaningful professional relationships with commercial and residential customers, suppliers, vendors, and other industry stakeholders to maintain and further grow these lines of business.
Responsibilities
- Prospect for opportunities with new and existing customers, generate leads, network and build relationships within landscape construction and environmental restoration market
- Manage opportunities throughout the sales cycle: Convert inbound leads to opportunities, meet with prospects to identify project scope, propose opportunities for new business with potential clients
- Communicate with clients throughout project life cycle, including project start, status updates, gain approval and collect payments
- Search for Requests For Proposals (RFPs) on city, county, and government websites, as well as commercial project job posting websites
- Formulate and submit RFPs by submittal deadlines
- Support the development of a marketing database that includes customer contacts, customer fact sheets, contracts, and other information relevant to existing and potential customers to evaluate opportunities for growth
- Monitor and track performance and perform detailed variance analysis monthly
- Take initiative to identify and pursue new business lines and opportunities
- Identify prospective customers and new opportunities for existing customers using business directories, by following leads from existing clients, and by attending various industry networking events
- Monitor market conditions to stay ahead of market issues and changes in the industry
- Able to review and negotiate contract details
- Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales reports, filing expense account reports, and assisting with account receivable collections
- Willingness to travel to contact and visit customers and attend networking events
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree is required. A degree in accounting, architecture, business, construction management, construction technology, economics, engineering, environmental science, finance, natural resources, project management, or other related discipline is preferred
- Understanding of construction, environment, and landscaping (native plants) industry is preferred
- 1+ year experience in construction, engineering, or project management is preferred
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word is required
- Experience reading, interpreting, negotiating, and understanding construction contracts is required
- Work experience demonstrating strong analytical and interpersonal skills is important
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
- Superior written communication and presentation skills is required
- An ability to analyze data and present findings is required
- Able to multitask and demonstrate a commonsense approach to problem solving
- Able to demonstrate initiative and effective time management skills to develop knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill job responsibilities in an independent and thorough manner
- Able to develop good working relationships with colleagues and customers
