Responsibilities:

  • Work with the senior management team to develop, implement and achieve the strategic sales plan and targets.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in the U.S. food industry (retail, foodservices, distribution etc).
  • Initiate and complete proposals and presentations for new business opportunities.
  • Work with Marketing colleagues in the preparation of proposals for campaigns and promotional activities, conduct customer surveys and analyse feedback.
  • Analyze market trends and provide insights to guide product and business strategy.
  • To maintain excellent client relationships with potential new, as well as existing clients.
  • Build and foster strong customer relationships across the accounts including Buying, Supply Chain, Finance etc. at all relevant levels.
  • On-going management of the sales forecast for named accounts, compilation and analysis of sales and then updating internal systems accordingly.
  • Utilise market intelligence links in the field to ensure opportunities and events can be capitalised on at the appropriate time.
  • Ownership of the full sales cycle - from lead generation to closure and further into relationship management.
  • Develop successful working relationships with the Selma manufacturing and distribution facility to achieve our goals.
  • To protect the organisations value by keeping information confidential.
  • Enhance organisational reputation.
  • Lead contract negotiations with retailers and distributors to secure optimal pricing, shelf space, and promotional campaigns.
  • Conduct in-store visits, monitor brand performance, and participate in trade events, food expos etc to boost visibility.
  • Analyse sales trends, competitor performance, and customer feedback to refine strategies.
  • Any other reasonable duties associated with the role or projects assigned to meet the overall objectives of the role.

Success Metrics:

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • New business revenue generated.
  • Number and quality of new customer acquisitions (retailers, distributors, foodservice).
  • Market share growth.
  • New product listing wins and promotional campaign execution.
  • Strength and depth of customer relationships built.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5 years or plus of Business Development and Sales experience.
  • Grocery and Retail/CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) experience preferred.
  • It is essential that you have a proven track record of managing food retail accounts and desirable commodities (particularly rice products) experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with brokers.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Food Science, Marketing, or related field is preferred.
  • This role is highly commercial and requires the ability to build great relationships whilst delivering mutual value for both the customer and the brand.
  • Proven negotiation and closing skills.
  • Confident in talking about category, trends and brands.
  • Excellent commercial & numerical acumen.
  • Information & networking, presentation skills, account management, market research skills.
  • A good cross functional communicator.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • A high level of proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Flexible to do what is needed to support company success.
  • Willingness to travel domestically for client meetings and trade shows.
