Business Development Manager

What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will support the Amgen External Research & Development Rare Disease group. This operations-focused role includes reviewing, screening, and processing potential investment opportunities, as well as supporting portfolio management and competitive intelligence efforts. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and professional acumen, as it involves frequent communication with external parties and internal collaborators. This role is critical in identifying innovative opportunities for strategic investment, with the ultimate goal of helping more patients and creating value for stakeholders across the organization.

Daily responsibilities include:
  • Act as a key member of various deal teams to support the diligence and execution of Rare Disease M&A or licensing deals
  • Distill insights, investment recommendations, deal analysis and thematic observations into executive-friendly presentations for senior leadership
  • Evaluate incoming Rare Disease opportunities by presenting high level summaries to the team and communicating our decisions with external parties appropriately
  • Maintain database of all Rare Disease opportunities and relevant information in a central repository for the Business Development organization
  • Communicating with external parties about status, feedback and Q&A during evaluations
  • Provide operational support for the Rare Disease External R&D team, including running key meetings, creating draft slide decks, collating input, taking notes during meetings, coordinating team member assignments for assessments, etc.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate across the broader External R&D team to deliver executive-friendly presentations to inform senior leadership of ongoing BD opportunities
  • Support various strategic projects that enhance Rare Disease External R&D capabilities

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Masters degree and 2 years of Scientific Research Experience in Biologic Sciences

Or

Bachelors degree and 4 years of Scientific Research Experience in Biologic Sciences

Or

Associates degree and 8 years of Scientific Research Experience in Biologic Sciences

Or

High school diploma / GED and 10 years Scientific Research Experience in Biologic Sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong scientific knowledge/academic background
  • Solid scientific analysis and interpretation skills for decision-making and problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including verbal, written and listening
  • Interest in learning
  • Project management and multi-tasking skills, proficiency in database management, data entry, and MS Office tools
  • Ability to search and retrieve information from databases, internet and other external sources
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and individually

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
