Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with deep expertise in Department of Defense (DoD) acquisitions and extensive experience in defense strategy and government relations. This key position will spearhead our strategic growth initiatives, leverage high-level relationships within the DoD, and facilitate the integration of our products into defense and adjacent markets. You will be pivotal in advancing our strategic engagements, shaping policy interactions, and driving revenue through established and emerging channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Acquisition & Sales:
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to penetrate and expand within DoD and governmental markets.
- Leverage deep-rooted relationships within the Pentagon, military branches, and other federal stakeholders to secure contracts and partnerships.
- Lead capture management efforts, from initial opportunity identification through proposal development and contract negotiation.
- Introduce a new weapons system to the DoD and help secure support for the system within the government as the system is in development.
Government Relations & Advocacy:
- Serve as Aurelius Systems' senior liaison to DoD acquisition officials, legislative bodies, and appropriations committees.
- Represent the company in strategic discussions, legislative hearings, and policy meetings to advocate for directed energy and defense innovation.
Portfolio Management & Market Expansion:
- Identify and pursue emerging opportunities within adjacent markets such as homeland security, maritime security, law enforcement, and allied sectors.
- Provide strategic input to align product capabilities with defense sector needs, ensuring strong product-market fit.
Cross-functional Leadership:
- Collaborate directly with R&D, engineering, and product management teams to align technical capabilities with DoD requirements and strategic priorities.
- Provide market intelligence and acquisition feedback to influence product development cycles and strategic direction.
- Create a strategy and policy for the business development team to support the process of DoD outreach and relationships.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance.
Experience:
- 8+ years of demonstrated success in DoD business development, acquisitions, government relations, or strategic roles within defense contracting.
- Proven experience in high-level DoD acquisitions, legislative liaison roles, or strategic product management within defense contexts.
- Introduced a new weapon system to the DoD and built support through the development and refinement of the system.
- Strong existing network and relationships within military, legislative, and federal acquisition communities.
Skills:
- Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and communication capabilities.
- Strategic and tactical business acumen, particularly in defense contracting and procurement.
- Proven capability to lead complex initiatives from conception through successful execution in a startup or dynamic environment.
- Experience working with Special Operations Commands or related rapid-acquisition programs.
