"Reports to: Transportation Coordinator SUMMARY Bus Drivers operate school buses to provide safe transportation of students to and from school, field trips and activity trips. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily as prescribed by the Department of Transportation on assigned school bus. Operate various types of school buses and bus equipment in various weather conditions at various hours of the day. Must work in conjunction with students, school officials and student families. Communicate effectively and maintain acceptable public relationships. Fuel and top off fluid levels on assigned bus as required. Maintain sanitary and healthy conditions on assigned bus. Have a general knowledge of mechanical aspects of assigned school bus and report repair requests to appropriate transportation personnel. Follow and maintain schedule of assigned bus route by reading maps and route rosters. Maintain compliance with federal and state school bus rules and regulations. Follow local Board Policies as they relate to transportation. Attend required compliance training as needed. Maintain current Class B (P)(S) commercial driver's license and current medical card. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required. A background in student transportation preferred but not required. Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate the ability to remain calm, professional and safe in an environment with frequent interruption. Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals to maintain effective relationships. Ability to problem solve and make good judgement decisions as they relate to student transportation. Language Skills: Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from students, parents and staff. Ability to report concerns to supervisor if needed. Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email and electronics is helpful. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to become familiar with District roads and District routes. Ability to learn about and work with students with diverse and additional needs. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Ability to obtain certificates, licenses and registrations as determined necessary by the District, Wyoming Department of Education, and the Department of Transportation. Must agree to and clear a background check. Must have a valid Driver's License and a clear driving record. Must complete necessary training from a designated training program to obtain a bus driving CDL and endorsements, if one is not already held. If a candidate cannot successfully obtain the minimum requirements of certificates, licenses and registrations after training, the candidate is not qualified. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMAINDS: Ability to occasionally stoop, crawl, bend, lift, lower, reach, climb, walk and sit. Ability to lift or lower weight up to 75 lbs. The position requires travel across the District and may require some statewide or out of State travel. Ability to work in various weather conditions and temperatures Ability to work split shifts at various times during the day/night.
