Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Urgent Care Medical Director is responsible for enhancing the planning, overseeing, and directing of medical affairs for the NTX Urgent Care Service Line. This may encompass patient quality, patient safety, infection control, risk management, provider interviewing, clinical performance management, recruitment and facilitating internal relationships and alignment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE:
- Evaluates and implements quality and efficiency improvement activities and effectively communicates changes.
- Monitors and optimizes urgent care access and capacity and works to improve wait times.
- Reduces ED utilization as appropriate through proactive management of clinical acumen and ED escalation protocols.
- Establishes and maintains strong communication and effective collaborative relationships with hospital and regional leadership teams. Consults Hospital Leadership on medical issues and operational problems affecting patient care.
- Aligns the views and goals of Urgent Care medical staff to the business objectives of BSWH.
- Ensures that medical staff practices are compliant with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Leads, guides and facilitates physician/APP relations, recruitment, credentialing and peer/chart review activities.
- Evaluates new developments in medical care and recommends new practices and procedures.
- Ensure collaborative relationships are maintained with APPs and supervising physicians.
- Maintain collaboration with BUMC Family Medicine Residency Program serving as attending physician for residency rotations in Urgent Care.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor Osteopathic Medicine Required.
- 5+ Years of experience as a physician in clinical practice with adult and pediatric medicine experience.
- 3+ Years of leadership experience required; 5+ years of leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to work within and thrive in a matrix organization, building and maintaining horizontal and vertical relationships as needed for success.
- Strong Collaboration with operational counterpart working in a DYAD model.
- Strong experience aligning and leading the medical operations of a site or service line within a healthcare system.
- Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
- Current certification by the appropriate certifying board.
- Informative and Persuasive presentation skills.
- Solid clinician skills with understanding of risk management and related quality metrics.
- Time allocation of 60-70% clinical 30-40% administrative. Clinical responsibility will be spread across 9 locations. Flexibility is expected to be extended as priorities change.
- Ability to triage clinical and administrative time from a central location will be key to success. Our central most location will serve as the primary clinical base.
