The Educational Communications Board (ECB) offers a professional yet relaxed environment, extensive training, great colleagues, and some really cool technology. ECB is the state agency that delivers educational, noncommercial, and public safety media via Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. We are seeking a Broadcast Network Engineer (IS Network Services Senior or Specialist for our Broadcast Information Technology (BIT) unit.

The Broadcast Network Engineer serves under general supervision of the IT Director and is based at one of the agency's hub sites in Madison, Eau Claire, Wheeler, Green Bay, Park Falls, or La Crescent, MN. Occasional remote work requests may be granted with supervisor approval based on projects and departmental need.

Position Summary

The incumbent supports the ongoing operation of the Education Communication Board's (ECB) wide area network (WAN) and oversees deployment of upgrades to equipment and system capabilities. The incumbent provides advice and recommendations to the unit's supervisor and agency leadership on the adoption and procurement of new and emerging technologies. The incumbent also provides key network security services, as well as support for and acquisition of existing and legacy telecom communications equipment for field installation and use.

The incubment in this position reports to the IT director, however the agency-wide integration of this position also requires considerable coordination with, and direction from, the operations center manager and the director of field engineering. Work is performed under general supervision. The incumbent represents the Educational Communications Board with civil, professional, and positive actions and demeanor and helps to ensure a workplace free of harassment and discrimination.

Special Requirements:
  • Requires a variable, non-traditional work schedule including some nights and weekends.
  • May require regular standby or on-call status.
  • Requires frequent in-state travel.

Level will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

Salary Information

Starting salary for the IS Network Services Senior position will be between $30.00 - $44.52 per hour ($62,400.00 and $92,601.60 annually), depending on candidate qualifications. This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 07/34.

Starting salary for the IS Network Services Specialist position will be between $35.00 - $47.00 per hour ($72,800.00 and $97,760.00 annually), depending on candidate qualifications. This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 07/33.

A 12-month probation period may be required. Pay for current and eligible former State employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

Job Details

Due to the nature of the position, ECB will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. ECB does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

Travel reimbursement for eligible interview candidates may be provided.

The selected candidate may be approved for moving expenses for this position if they meet the minimum distance as required by the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have the following (regardless of level):
  • Experience with Broadcast Engineering concepts and technology.
  • Experience with IT and networking standards as they pertain to broadcast infrastructure, systems, and equipment
  • Experience with current LAN/WAN architectures, Client/Server technology, distributed database and data communications technology and capabilities
In addition to having all of the above, candidates at the Specialist level will have the following:
  • Experience as a chief engineer for a television and/or radio broadcast operation
  • Experience and/or certification administering Cisco networking equipment
