Lolev is a 2-year-old brewery with a commitment to making approachable, refined beer, with a particular focus on IPA, lager, and barrel/foeder aging. We have two locations - A brewery with taproom in Pittsburgh, PA and a taproom in Zelienople, PA. We leverage a steam-driven 20 barrel brewhouse for our production operations and are committed to refining our product and pursuing excellence in our products, process, and service.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced brewer to join our team. Our team is composed of a group of senior members that collaborate on all aspects of brewing and delivery. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of brewing processes, an eye for quality, and a drive for continuous improvement. You'll oversee all aspects of production, and uphold our commitment to brewing excellence. Salary is based on number of qualifications you meet.
Responsibilities:
• Participate in day-to-day brewing operations, ensuring adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Execute and manage preventive maintenance on all brewing and cellar equipment
• Contribute to recipe development and refinement with a focus on quality, creativity, and consistency
• Manage yeast health, pitching rates, and reuse practices to optimize fermentation outcomes
• Drive production efficiency and implement optimization to reduce waste and maximize output
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety throughout the brewery
• Collaborate with other departments to align production/delivery with sales, distribution, and inventory planning
• Utilize brewing software and logs to track batch quality, efficiency metrics, and maintenance
• Conduct sensory analysis and quality control testing across all stages of production
• Participate in all aspects of the brewing process based on what is required on a given day
Qualifications:
• Deep understanding of brewing science, fermentation, and yeast management
• Experience with preventive maintenance and equipment troubleshooting
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Familiarity with brewing software and production tracking systems
• Problem-solving mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Passion for craft beer and innovation in style and process
Bonus Qualifications:
• Formal brewing education or certification (e.g. Siebel, UC Davis, IBD)
• Awards or domain knowledge in any specific styles or processes like barrel aging.
• Background in sensory evaluation or quality assurance
• Ability to lead and take ownership of delivery commitments
• Ability to project output and plan ahead to ensure efficient use of cellar and maximize output
• Knowledge of typical brewing equipment like pumps, motors, glycol chiller, steam boiler, and compressors
