Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position (2-3 sentences)

Responsible for all lactation related services, programs and education and services as a resource for lactation counseling and support to the community. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups.


Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts educational programs, education, and services for lactation counseling and support to the staff, community and patients/families.
  • Responds timely to inquiries for requested program, education, and services for the community.
  • Assists in creation of resource materials to be used for programs, education, and services for lactation counseling and support to the staff, community and patients/families.

Education Qualifications

2 Year/ Associates Degree Nursing required for BSMH, BSN preferred

For Roper St Francis Healthcare BSN required


Licensing/ Certification

Must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. Must obtain CLC within 6 months of hire and IBCLC within 2 years of hire.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

Three to five years nursing experience, specifically in obstetrics and/or infant development required.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Work requires excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with mothers and a variety of professional personnel.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Experience with NICU patients preferred. Covers NICU and OB but will flex throughout house to provide lactation support as needed.
