The College is excited to announce an opening for the position of Biological Science Faculty - P01553 in the Biological Science Division. We're looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community.


What You'll Do

To demonstrate effective instructional effort by (1) maintaining high academic standards, (2) teaching current and relevant curriculum (3) communicating content effectively, and (4) cultivating an environment best suited to learning:

List teaching assignments and reassigned time assignments (Provided by Administrator);

Provide instructor syllabi that comply with Policy 05-12. (Provided electronically);

Grades accurately reflect student achievements of learning outcomes (Syllabus grade calculation information should provide evidence that the grading system rationale puts primary focus on learning outcomes assessment (through tests, quizzes, papers, presentations and the like); grade weighting for attendance, behaviors, extra credit, and homework should be lower than learning assessments;

Teach classes at assigned time and place (provide teaching and office schedule). Compliance to schedule assumed absent concerns/evidence presented to supervisor;

Maintain and report accurate records of attendance and grades when required by state and federal law and college policy and procedures. Compliance assumed absent concerns/evidence presented to supervisor.Recording class attendance at each class meeting is required by TCC procedure 05-07AP);

Maintain office hours in accordance with the schedule developed and approved by the immediate supervisor each semester (provide teaching and office schedule). Compliance to schedule assumed absent concerns/evidence presented to supervisor.

Demonstrate active engagement in defining appropriate curriculum content and revision of curriculum as appropriate:

Review course objectives and instructional strategies periodically to assure consistency with master syllabus;

Prepare or revise master course syllabus and assist in course coordination;

Participate in selection of appropriate course textbooks, resources, and learning management systems or other modes of reference/instruction as appropriate;

Revise course or develop new courses as needed to assure relevancy and appropriateness of curriculum.

Demonstrate significant contributions to the college through service and support of college policies and procedures (do not identify as service any activities for which you receive reassigned time or a supplemental contract):

Encourage students to make maximum use of the resources of the College, including the Library, Learning Commons, and online resources (indicated on syllabus and/or handouts/assignments, on Blackboard or elsewhere);

Engage in service to the college through standing committee participation, assistance in other units such as orientation or recruitment in student affairs;

Engage in service to the division through committee participation, support for adjuncts, administrative duties, course or finals coordination, or other activities agreed on with the supervisor;

Provide service to the discipline through leadership positions in state or national organizations;

Participate in the advising process;

Follow college policy and procedures in all matters (compliance assumed absent concerns/evidence presented to supervisor.)

Demonstrate active engagement in professional development:

Develop and implement a plan for professional development that may include short- and long-term goals, as well as documentation to be included in the professional portfolio. Professional development may also include opportunities that are not planned but that present themselves during the year and are recorded as they occur.The plan is intended to be individualized and may involve innovation in instruction, curriculum, or service.

Who We're Looking For

The Biological Science Faculty must have:

Minimum of a Master's degree in biology or a related biological science subfield.

A master's degree in a related discipline with 18 or more graduate credit hours in biology or related biological science subfield also meets the minimum requirement.

Qualifying Fields: Agriculture, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical research, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Cell biology, Conservation biology, Ecology, Environmental biology, Genetics, Marine biology, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Mycology, Neurobiology, Population biology, Physiology, or Zoology.
