We are seeking a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our North Austin team and help us deliver excellent service to our team, clients, and community. The Legal Assistant/Paralegal is responsible for providing signature customer service while managing and working pre-litigation and litigation cases. They provide support to attorneys, correspond and maintain a good working relationship with clients, experts, attorneys, adjusters, and work colleagues, etc. They also organize and maintain a caseload of approximately 30-40 active cases (i.e. birth injuries, nursing home negligence, and/or other miscellaneous medical malpractice cases, auto accidents, etc.)
Key Job Responsibilities:
Assisting with case planning and strategy
Gathering and reviewing medical records, health insurance information, and other evidence
Coordinating directly with experts to determine the viability of cases
Calendaring deadlines and tracking them throughout cases
Corresponding regularly with various entities and individuals
Disbursing and sending out settlement payments
Drafting demands, discovery requests and responses, pleadings, expert designations, notice letters/authorizations, etc.
Scheduling depositions, mediations, and trials; attending events as needed.
Education, Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
High school education or equivalent
6 months to 2 years (or more) of legal assistant/paralegal experience preferred but not required
3-5 years of work experience in customer service or related fields preferred but not required
Basic understanding of computers, good typing skills, and ability to learn software systems
Able to work with minimal supervision
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
