Summary:

As a Battery System Engineer at Meta, you will take ownership of the Battery pack electrical designs and their integrations to power the state-of-the-art devices developed by Reality Labs. You will work closely with our product engineering teams to define battery requirements, aiming to find the best options for product volume, weight, and run time. You will provide build support during New Product Introduction activities to ensure that manufacturing processes align with design intent. Collaboration with safety, reliability, operations, software and other cross-functional partners will be essential to integrate the battery into the final system and meet system level performance metrics. Supporting final assembly activities at supplier sites to ensure proper integration of the battery into the final system will be part of your duties, as well as assisting the sourcing team with cost analysis, supplier audits, and market analysis.

Battery Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Work with product groups to define and deliver battery packs as per requirement
  2. Work with vendors to develop battery packs per Meta's requirements
  3. Develop engineering requirements and specifications, test and validate plans for manufacturing and characterization of battery packs
  4. Develop Electrical and interconnect architectures for battery management systems
  5. Develop test boards and test fixtures to validate the performance of batteries
  6. Develop processes, frameworks and best practices to scale designs across multiple programs
  7. Develop Electrical and thermal battery characterization requirements
  8. Support hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection issues
  9. Provide build support during early New Product Introduction builds to ensure that the process can meet the design intent
  10. Perform failure analysis, root cause analysis and create corrective action plans
  11. communicate problems and solutions to cross functional team members
  12. Identify system interactions and design factors which impact battery module performance such as charge time affected by system thermals and battery age, interaction with accessories and help assist product claims on battery runtimes
  13. Perform battery gas gauge performance characterization at both module and system levels
  14. Support software integration of batteries into system for both functionality and performance
  15. Domestic and international travel to suppliers in Asia and to test labs in the US
Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  2. 3+ years experience in working with of Li-ion battery pack design
  3. Experience with Battery Management systems including fuel gauging
  4. Experience applying electrical engineering fundamentals into product solutions
  5. Experience working on consumer electronics
  6. Experience with PCB schematic capture and layout design with Altium
  7. Experience communicating with and working collaboratively with Product Design engineers and other hardware/software cross-functional team members
Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  2. 5+ years experience in working with Lithium-ion battery pack design
  3. Experience with battery protection circuits, communication protocols such as I2C, UART, charger interactions
  4. Electrical Engineering background in analog and digital circuits, schematic and layout capture tools
  5. Experience with statistical tools, Design of Experiments and packages such as JMP or Minitab
  6. Experience in programming in languages such Python or C and/or other scripting languages
  7. Experience with high volume production
  8. Communication and presentation skills
Public Compensation:

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
