Carolina International Charter School JOB TITLE: Head Girls Basketball Coach - High School Varsity
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB It is the job of every athletic coach to instill positive and ethical values in student athletes through sports. The program should facilitate the social and emotional growth of every student athlete while also improving athletic skills.
REPORTS TO: Head of School and the Athletic Director
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Develop and implement an athlete-centered coaching philosophy.
2. Fulfill all legal responsibilities and risk management procedures associated with coaching including CPR, AED, and Concussion Protocol certifications prior to the start of the sport season.
3. Must have completed a NC based Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association approved course in the care and prevention of athletic injuries prior to the beginning of the designated season of the sport.
4. Must earn Accredited Interscholastic Coach certification from the National Federation of High Schools by the end of the first year of coaching.
5. Know and understand the skills and strategies associated with the sport.
6. Identify, model and teach positive values and behaviors through sports.
7. Demonstrate effective game management.8. Prevent injuries by ensuring the facility and equipment is safe and appropriate.
9. Monitor environmental conditions and modify participation as needed.
10. Design and implement a training, conditioning, recovery and nutritional program for your team.
11. Facilitate the social and emotional growth of athletes by creating a positive athletic environment.
12. Provide an opportunity for athletes to learn responsibility and leadership.
13. Develop and monitor goals for each athlete and the program.
14. Organize and plan practices to maximize performance, time on task and resources.
15. Utilize appropriate instructional and communication strategies to enhance learning.
16. Demonstrate and utilize appropriate motivational techniques to enhance performance.
17. Create a positive program, public relationship with your parents, school, and community.
18. Facilitate and document an emergency action plan for your program.
19. Arrange and schedule bus transportation with the Athletic Director. Ability to drive school van/vehicle to travel to away games and other basketball events. Will travel with student athletes on the team bus both to and from competitions.
20. Attend NC Coaches Clinic in Greensboro, NC, etc.
21. Summer workouts weekly excluding the dead periods.
22. Work closely with the AD to secure fundings for the program, etc. and sponsorships.
23. Submits athletic rosters to the Athletic Director one week before the first game, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (list includes number of awards and the class of the athlete).
24. Ensures that proper forms (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current and that all student athletes are academically eligible.
25. Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves after games and practices.
26. Consults with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-post tryout and informational parent meetings.
27. Hold informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season for all levels. Organize a parent volunteer group to help with snack bar, parties, team meals, end of the year banquet, etc.
28. Creates a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
29. Maintains Strong Interpersonal Skills: Works well with other from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
30. Works directly with school athletic director and trainer in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries. Completes Student/Youth Accident report for any student injured within 24 hours even if student athlete does not see physician.
31. Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and community.
32. Acknowledges and upholds NC Code of Ethics for educators.

7. Knowledgeable of all Conference and related procedures and guidelines.
8. Plan, organize, and direct the Varsity Basketball program under the supervision and guidance of the Athletic Director
OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the Head of School and/or Activities Director. PHYSICAL
DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: None TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary based upon and/or applied to the current year Extra Pay for Extra Duty Pay Schedule (i.e. seasonal stipend).
