Main duties of the job
To provide a specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) service to adult inpatients with communication and/or swallowing disorders as part of the staff bank. The post holder will work as a fully integrated member of the SLT and multidisciplinary teams, providing assessment and management to patients across various medical and surgical specialisms, including acute admissions units, respiratory, care of the elderly, stroke, neurosciences, cancer, renal, cardiothoracics, vascular, major trauma, and critical care. The role includes making independent clinical decisions, participating in multidisciplinary work, service development, and delivering training. Some cross-site working may be required.

Job responsibilities
Bank Speech & Language Therapists - Adult Acute (Band 6 and 7)
We are seeking experienced SLTs with adult acute and critical care experience to join our growing staff bank. The adult acute SLT service operates across St Mary's, Charing Cross, and Hammersmith hospitals, with teams skilled in assessing and treating communication and swallowing disorders from complex etiologies. The service includes weekly videofluoroscopy clinics and an SLT-led FEES service. We promote evidence-based practice and CPD activities.
Applicants for Band 6 and 7 roles should have relevant experience; Band 7 candidates should have competencies in tracheostomy and videofluoroscopy, and experience with complex cases in level 2 and 3 critical care, including FEES and ventilator-dependent patients. The roles involve working across the three hospital sites where the adult SLT service is provided (CX, SMH, HH).
Rates of pay
Band 6: £23.33 (including WTR)
Band 7: £25.18 (including WTR)
