Role Overview
We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Backend Engineer to support our fast-paced startup client. You will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining scalable backend systems You will work closely with frontend, product, and engineering teams to deliver robust features and efficient APIs. You shall be working in US time zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and GraphQL.
- Create and optimize GraphQL schemas, queries, and mutations to ensure efficient data exchange.
- Manage MongoDB databases, ensuring schema design, indexing, and aggregation pipelines support performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with frontend teams to define API requirements and ensure seamless data flow.
- Write clear, maintainable code following modern coding standards and participate in peer reviews.
- Implement effective error handling, logging, and security measures across services.
- Monitor backend performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively optimize APIs and database queries.
- Maintain clear documentation of backend logic, schema definitions, and API usage.
- Stay updated with evolving backend technologies and suggest improvements for the tech stack.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 year of hands-on experience in backend development.
- Strong knowledge of GraphQL, including schema design and resolver logic.
- Proficient in Node.js with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Solid experience with MongoDB: schema modeling, aggregation, indexing, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and microservices architecture.
- Experience working with Git and standard version control practices.
- Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams and using tools like Jira or Trello.
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
- Experience with Express.js or Apollo Server.
- Understanding of authentication & authorization (e.g., JWT, OAuth).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment (e.g., AWS, Vercel, or Heroku).
- Basic understanding of unit testing and tools like Jest or Mocha.
- Prior exposure to frontend frameworks (e.g., React) for better backend-frontend coordination.
