AWS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR The Travel.State.gov website is the U.S. Department of State's primary resource for passport, visa, international travel advisories, and consular information, serving millions of travelers annually. This effort will modernize and maintain robust, secure, scalable AWS infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, availability, and compliance with federal security standards. The Travel.State.gov environment requires modernization, secure management, and continuous optimization of AWS cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities include enhancing system reliability, scalability, security, and compliance in alignment with Department of State standards, federal regulations, and cybersecurity best practices. The AWS System Administrator will play a pivotal role in administering, optimizing, and securing the AWS infrastructure underpinning the critical Travel.State.gov platform. This position offers the opportunity to support high-impact operations, directly affecting millions of global travelers through the provision of reliable, secure, and high-performance cloud solutions. Work Location: Remote, however strong preference given to those located in the Washington D.C. Metro area RESPONSIBILITIES: AWS Administration & Optimization:
Configure, manage, and optimize AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambda, CloudFront, VPC).
Monitor system performance and proactively mitigate issues.
Manage system backups, disaster recovery strategies, and high-availability configurations.
Security & Compliance:
Implement and maintain FedRAMP-compliant security controls.
Regularly review security groups, IAM policies, and AWS security best practices.
Maintain system Authority to Operate (ATO)
Coordinate vulnerability assessments and incident response activities.
Infrastructure Automation & Maintenance:
Utilize infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Implement CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
Document all configurations and maintain detailed system documentation.
Team Collaboration
Collaborate closely with software development, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams.
Support application deployments and environment configurations. REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
Related Experience:
MUST BE A US CITIZEN FOR CLEARANCE PURPOSES
5+ years experience as an AWS System Administrator.
Proven experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, Lambda, CloudWatch, VPC).
Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
Understanding of federal security compliance (FedRAMP, NIST standards).
Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience). Preferred:
AWS Certification (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator).
Experience supporting Department of State or other federal government agencies.
Experience working within Agile or DevOps environments.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD pipelines. About INCATech LLC
