Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and responsible individual to join our Controlled Environments Team at our Johnston, Iowa research facility. In this role, you will support autonomous robot activities, execute plant care tasks, and ensure sanitation procedures are followed to maintain a safe and efficient working environment. As part of a dynamic team, you will help build the future of agriculture, driving innovation and technology to solve global food challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute autonomous robot activity and manage workload preparation and monitoring throughout the day.
  • Perform routine sanitation tasks, including grinding bins of plant material, operating an automated pots & flat washer, cleaning machinery, and sanitizing automated headhouses and greenhouses.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while using personal protective equipment (PPE) during all tasks.
  • Troubleshoot automation system issues, document problems, and resolve errors.
  • Carry out plant care tasks such as transplanting, pruning, tying, and discarding crops according to a set schedule.
  • Work once every 6th weekend, with compensatory days off (comp days).

Required Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures while prioritizing personal safety and ergonomics.
  • Effective communication skills, a high degree of self-motivation, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, and trailers.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), and a willingness to learn internal research software.
  • Positive attitude towards working with robotic technology.
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with pollen exposure year-round.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with automation systems or robotic technology (preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with greenhouse or agricultural environments.

Certifications
  • Valid driver's license (required).
  • Forklift certification (preferred but not required).
