Job Description The Automation Engineer III will report directly into the R&D Team Lead and be responsible for:
- Design, develop, and implement automation systems and controls to support thermoforming and downstream manufacturing processes.
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and other automation technologies.
- Lead automation projects including equipment specification, integration, installation, and validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering) to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, user manuals, and change control records.
- Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions related to automation failures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing throughput, reducing downtime, and improving product quality.
- Ensure automation systems comply with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and internal quality standards.

The Successful Applicant - Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, preferably within the medical device or highly regulated industries.
- Advanced proficiency with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred) and HMI development.
- Experience with robotics integration (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, UR) and vision systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, sensor technologies, and industrial networking.
- Familiarity with validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) and documentation in regulated environments.
- Excellent project management, troubleshooting, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is a plus.
