Required Degree: J.D. from ABA-accredited law school and Texas or CA Bar license
Required Experience: 4+ years of legal practice at a law firm and/or as in-house counsel with at least 1 year in logistics-, transportation-, and warehouse management-related transactional experience
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Drafting and Review
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including transportation agreements, warehousing contracts, service agreements, and vendor contracts
- Ensure that contracts are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations and reflect the best interferes of the company
Risk Management
- Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive advice and solutions to mitigate them
- Develop and implement strategies to protect the company's interests and minimize legal exposure
Regulatory Compliance
- Stay updated on federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to logistics, transportation, and warehouse management
- Provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSRA and others
Legal Research
- Conduct legal research to stay current with evolving legal trends and industry-specific issues
- Translate legal findings into actionable recommendations for the company
Dispute Resolution
- Assist in the resolution of disputes, including contract disputes, claims, and litigation matters
- Collaborate with outside counsel when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
- Work across time zones and cultures with a cross-functional group of stakeholders
Requirements/Qualifications:
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Texas
- 4+ years of legal practices including at least 1 year in logistics-, transportation-, and warehouse management-related transactional experience
- Working knowledge of industry-specific regulations such as DOT, FMCSA, OSRA, and logistics and warehousing contracts in general
- Experience in different modes of transportation (eg, truckload, flatbed, LTL, railroad, ocean, import & export)
- Demonstrated abilities to work in a fast-paced environment, meet stringent timelines, and handle multiple demand simultaneously
- Excellent client relationship experience and communication skills, and ability to work with a wide range of people with varying degrees of legal exposure
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to conduct Internet research and abilities to learn internal contract management tools (eg, Cello KMS)
