Pay and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $35.29-$47.29, dependent on qualifications and experience. The City of Kentwood offers free access to an employee assistance program. Part-time employees are also eligible for paid vacation and sick leave benefits.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Judge, main responsibilities for this role include performing professional duties for the Court in accordance with Administrative Order 2009-6, effective January 1, 2010, and MCL 600.8501. This position is at the pleasure of the District Court Judge and the appointment of this position is subject to approval of the Kentwood City Commission.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited school of law, verification required.
  • A registered elector in the district of Kentwood.
  • Has a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan, verification required.
  • Completion of training course in traffic law adjudication and sanctions by SCAO.
  • Minimum of three years legal experience is preferred.
  • File a performance bond in the amount of $50,000 with Kent County Treasurer and Chief Judge.
  • Must be able to maintain and confirm a minimum of 24 hours of Continued Legal Education (CLE) every two years.
  • Must be able to pass a full background check, including drug test screening. Due to federal regulations candidates may not test positive for marijuana.

The court has a civil division, criminal division, landlord/tenant division, probation department, small claims division and traffic division.
