Location: Boston Metro, MA
Salary Range: $120K-$150K, plus bonus
Schedule: Full-time 35 hours/week Monday-Friday, 9-5 2 remote days/week
About the Role:
A top Boston law firm is hiring an experienced Attorney Development Manager to oversee key HR processes and attorney development programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law firm human resources, attorney onboarding, and professional development. This role requires strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop and implement impactful programs to support attorneys at every stage of their careers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted colleague and build strong relationships with attorneys and employees across all sections
- Gain a deep understanding of the firm's capabilities and resources to act as an advocate for positive change and innovative solutions
- Manage the attorney onboarding and orientation process, continuously improving effectiveness and integration strategies
- Oversee mentoring and advising programs, including pairing, training, and program evaluations
- Establish and monitor external coaching arrangements
- Manage the firm's flexible work program, coaching attorneys through the process
- Implement and oversee non-discrimination and anti-harassment training
- Participate in the attorney evaluation processes, assessing performance and development needs
- Plan and coordinate events to enhance engagement and morale
- Oversee the attorney leadership program and ensure its continued success
- Manage bar admissions, annual attorney bar renewals, and bar association updates
- Liaise with attorneys, firm management, and the benefits team regarding ADA accommodation requests
- Handle various attorney employment changes, including relocations, secondments, and retirements
- Administer the firm's in-office attendance policy
- Oversee the departure process, conduct exit interviews, and streamline reporting of firm-wide results
- Participate in internal public speaking engagements
- Collect and coordinate responses to survey data inquiries
- Supervise the attorney development coordinator, providing mentorship and professional growth opportunities
- Stay current with professional development trends and best practices by attending industry conferences and networking groups
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of Human Resources experience required, with a strong preference for experience in attorney development
- Law firm experience is required
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong planning, project management, and organizational skills
- High sense of urgency and attention to detail
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and credibility with attorneys and staff
- Hands-on, tactical approach with a proactive and problem-solving mindset
- Demonstrated ability to adapt and implement new concepts and processes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a positive and solutions-oriented approach
- Commitment to integrity, ethics, and discretion in handling confidential matters
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and PDF software. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and software
