General Responsibilities

This position is responsible for monitoring student attendance, dropout retrieval, and serving as the division's attendance officer.

Education and Experience

Requires a high school diploma, some college level course work and 1-2 years of experience with at-risk youth, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least one year of customer service experience. Requires a valid driver's license.

Essential Job Functions
  • Serving as the division's attendance officer.
  • Serves as school representative to parents, students, and court officials concerning unexcused absences.
  • Schedules and facilitates attendance conferences with school staff, parents and students concerning unexcused absences.
  • Reviews attendance guidelines with parents and students.
  • Inputs or retrieve attendance data from the student information system.
  • Generates truancy reports for school staff and administrators;
  • Reconciles and adjusts attendance data and follows standard protocols and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepares forms, attendance summaries, truancy reports and other documents as required.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians to report or verify excused or unexcused absences.
  • Operates a computer and use various software applications to complete assigned duties.
  • Explains and interprets applicable laws, regulations and protocols to parents, guardians and staff.
  • Presents lawful documentation to Juvenile and Circuit Court System.
  • Files petitions against parents or guardians who are out of compliance with state attendance regulations.
  • Provides accurate and lawful documentation to Juvenile Courts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Monitor attendance and identify habitual truancy.
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance;
  • Performs home visits for truant students.
  • Attends weekly prevention meetings with court and community professionals.
  • Works under the general supervision of a Senior Coordinator of Student Support Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
