Job Title: Athletic Sector Coordinator - Head Football Coach

Primary Purpose:
Serves as head high school football coach. Coordinates and manages the overall program of extracurricular athletics for the campuses assigned in sector / feeder pattern. Works to provide each student with opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Administrative Certification (preferred)
Hold position of head coach at high school level
Physical education endorsement (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to manage personnel and coordinate district function
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Three to five years of successful head football coaching experience (preferred) 4A-6A
Three to five years of offensive and/or defensive coordinator coaching experience in 4A-6A (preferred)
Eight to ten years of coaching experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
I. Administrative Responsibilities
  1. Organize and administer, in cooperation with the Athletic Director and sector principals, the overall program of athletics for the high school sector.
  2. Provide leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and trainers in cooperation with building principals and Athletic Director.
  3. Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events in his/her sector with the approval of the Athletic Director.
  4. Understands and complies with all UIL, TEA, and WISD rules and regulations.
  5. Supports and complies with all policies in the Athletic Handbook.
  6. Ensures supervision of athletic students at all times, including dressing rooms.
  7. Arranges and ensures completion of all necessary paperwork (eligibility, travel, bus requests, entry fees, PO's, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner for assigned sector.
  8. Ensures schedules and rosters are updated on the District Web-site.
  9. Exhibits appropriate dress and appearance at all times - classroom, office area, practice, games, etc.
  10. Ensures inventory maintenance, issues, and stores equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
  11. Delegates authority with responsibility while remaining accountable for such delegations.
  12. Monitors athletic facilities and makes recommendations for improvements.
  13. Promotes unity of the athletic program on respective campus and the feeder schools.
  14. Attends all athletic meetings.
  15. Establishes effective protocol for communication and distribution of information.
  16. Evaluates football programs on respective campuses.
  17. Assists the feeder school athletic program.
  18. Ensures that coaches follow UIL, TEA, and Waco ISD rules and regulations.
  19. Evaluates assistant coaches in their respective sport.
  20. Assists in the interview process and employment of football coaches.
  21. Assist the Athletic Director in preparing and administering the athletic budget.
  22. Establish and implement procedures to assure equity in hiring, funding and emphasis of the various athletic programs.
II. Skill Development and Coaching Performance
23. Works with sub-varsity and Middle School coaches to develop and maintain a coordinated program.
24. Possesses an in-depth knowledge of the sport from the fundamental skills to the advanced tactics and skills. Knows the rules and regulations pertaining to the sport.
25. Understands the strengths/weaknesses of the team and makes appropriate adjustments in practices and games.
26. Organizes practices to maximize the talents of the coaching staff and also maximize student participation.
27. Seeks to grow in profession by attending a reasonable number of professional and in-service activities.
28. Seeks to be innovative in attempting new coaching techniques and ideas.

29. Effectively monitors student athletes' grades and responds to their academic needs.
30. Promotes all school activities and encourages students to participate in a variety of activities.
31. Maintains a sense of loyalty to the coaching staff.
32. Maintains effective individual and team discipline.
33. Manages players with respect and dignity.
34. Willingness to help other teachers/coaches outside your job description.
35. Motivates with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for the game and the players.
36. Recognizes the differences in athletes and individualizes communication and motivation.
37. Communicates with assistant coach(s) in regards to roles, duties, and expectations.
38. Establishes and maintains a good rapport with faculty, administration, and coaching staff.
39. Cooperates with athletic trainers to ensure safety for all athletes.
40. Develops respect by example (appearance, manners, behavior, language, and conduct).
41. Welcomes comments, questions, and input from head coaches and assistant coaches.
42. Mentors all coaches.
43. Communicate regularly with appropriate central administrators and principals.
  1. Parent-Student Community Involvement
44. Foster good school/community relations by keeping the community aware of all sector athletic programs.
45. Holds one parent meeting prior to the start of the season detailing rules, tryout procedures, and discipline, work-out schedules, and general expectations of the head coach.
46. Acts and reacts in a professional manner.
47. Attends booster club meetings and oversees its role in the program.
48. Promotes a positive image of the entire athletic program in the community.
49. Attends multiple athletic events outside of coaching responsibility including feeder school athletic events.
50. Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
