Job Title:Asst Director MSW-Field EducationDepartment:Social Work Student Affairs
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director Masters of Social Work (MSW) -Field Education are to support the strategic advancement of field educational programming in both traditional and online environments. This includes overseeing, developing and supporting social work placements that provide students the opportunity to apply foundation and advanced generalist practice skills, knowledge and values in an agency/practice setting with professional social work field instruction and supervision. The position works closely with the Director of Field Education to monitor and continuously improve the quality of the field education program and to comply with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards for traditional and online program students.
Additionally, the position requires a high level of organization, detail-orientation, and multi-tasking abilities to organize and follow through on all field administration activities. This position also requires creativity in order to identify new opportunities to support and enhance the field program and/or the overall mission of the College of Social Work and The Ohio State University.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 5 years of relevant experience required.
Desired Qualifications
Advanced degree may be desirable. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
Required: Master's Level Degree with a Major in social work from a CSWE-accredited institution; two years relevant post-MSW experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Desired: Knowledge of central Ohio social services systems; prior teaching and clinical experience; 5+ years of professional post-graduate social work experience; 2+ years supervisory experience or student internship supervision; strong oral and written communication skills.
Salary range is $64,300 - $84,550 annually. The actual salary will fall within this range based on the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, and the unit's available budget.
Responsibilities
General Field Administration:
- This position will serve as a permanent member of the MSW Grad Studies committee. The position collaborates in the development of Field Program policies and procedures, oversees processes and communications to students related to field education, and ensures the Field Program adheres to both the university accreditation requirements and those mandated by the Council on Social Work Education. This position will interpret and make recommendations on policy and procedures as they relate to field education and communicates field program information effectively to students, faculty, and community and University partners. The position works closely with the Director to ensure accurate data and records are maintained.
- The position collaborates with the Director of Field Education to identify needed additional resources in the Office of Field Education. The position works under the direction of the Director of Field Education to develop, engage, and mentor community agencies to secure and maintain field placement opportunities for social work students. This position assists in actively nurturing community partnerships in order to sustain mutually beneficial partnerships; managing specialized field placements and projects.
- The position will work collaboratively with Assistant Director of BSSW Field Education to maintain super-user status for database and will oversee the maintenance of field database with support from Field Director.
- This position will supervise the MSW Placement Coordinators and Full and Part-time Field Coordinators assigned to MSW students.
Curriculum Oversight, Liaison/Co-instructor Support & Teaching:
- This position works under the direction of the Director of Field Education to provide leadership of assigned field coursework, including 6188 curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation and maintains correspondence related to 6189 and 7189 course content. The position collaborates with the Director of Field Education to ensure that field curriculum and other academic curriculum support and enhance the integration of theory and practice. The position provides leadership to Faculty Field Liaisons and community lecturers teaching field related courses. This position provides consultation and mediation as needed to facilitate communication between students, field instructors, field liaisons, field agencies, and academic program offices. The position will carry a field liaison load and will provide field supervision as needed. This position will teach a field seminar of field prep course.
Agency Development and Field Placement Process:
- In coordination with the Director of Field Education, the position works with the academic program offices to monitor and track the number of incoming students to oversee and coordinate the internship placement process. This position implements a strategic plan for effective and efficient placement of students and recruitment of field agencies to meet demand. Position will assist and lead the field placement process along with overseeing the field database and MSW student communication in coordination with the MSW Field Placement Coordinators.
Other duties as assigned:
- This position will assist in representing the field education program in college meetings, functions, and events.
