POSITION: Assistant Cook

REPORTS TO: OAC Assistant Director of Operations
LOCATION: 80 Pitt Street (New York, NY)
SALARY: $39 ,000 Annually
SCHEDULE: Full time, Mondays through Fridays 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
DATE: June 2025Job Summary: The Asst. Cook is responsible for implementation of food services in Grand Street Settlement's Senior Program. Responsibilities include taking on the cook's responsibility in their absence. Supervision and training of kitchen staffs including volunteers. Ensuring that the kitchen is clean and in sanitary condition according to DOH ordinances,
Follows and implements NYC Aging purchasing and cooking food standards. Assist the cook in food preparation and serving meals.
EDUACATION/ EXPIRIECE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent , plus current food handler's certificate
- Expierence in purchasing diverse food products
- Expierence in preparing culturally diverse food for participants
- Knowledge of seniors Nutritional requirements
- Able to lift and move heavy and/or bulky objects weighing up to 50lbs
- At least two year experience in the food industry
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE - Assist the cook with daily food preparation
- Assist with menu planning
- Assist with food orders and supplies according to NYC Aging standards
- Received and properly store food and supplies
- Clean and maintain proper kitchen equipment functions
- Assist with the monthly food and equipment inventory
- Ensure that food it set up on time for serving
- Set up and transport food on time to satellite site Serve meals to participants as needed
- In the absence of the cook assume full kitchen related duties
- In the absence of maintenance help assist with daily cleaning of the dining and kitchen areas
- Other duties as assigned
