JOB PURPOSE
An Associate System Administrator is an entry-level IT professional responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and support of computer systems, including server administration, network monitoring, user account management, troubleshooting technical issues, implementing software updates, and ensuring system stability.
Software Deployment and Patch Management: Install, configure, and update operating systems, applications, and security patches on servers and workstations according to established procedures.
User Account Management: Create, modify, and manage user accounts, access permissions, and security profiles for system users.
Incident Response: Respond to system outages, malfunctions, and user support requests by identifying the root cause and implementing solutions. This includes an on-call schedule.
Documentation and Knowledge Base: Maintain clear documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures.
Oversee systems environment, including: Deployment and maintenance of apps and software through MDM's such as Google Workspace and JAMF.
Security Compliance: Adhere to security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data, including password management and access controls. This includes but is not limited to user authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC2 compliance.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of Windows Server operating systems (Active Directory, Group Policy), Google Workspace, and Apple OS
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)
- Experience with system monitoring tools
Problem-solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze system logs, and identify root causes.
Communication Skills: Effective communication with users, technical teams, and management to clearly explain technical issues and solutions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ability to collaborate with other IT staff to resolve complex problems and contribute to team projects. Perform tasks of Tier 2 and 3 support.
- Perform Helpdesk duties as necessary
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies to improve IT support services.
- This position will be expected to cross-train with other functions in the department
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Education & Experience:
- Associates degree, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
