Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director of Residence Life on the Dahlonega campus. The Associate Director of Residence Life is a full-time, live-off position that assists in directing and administering all aspects of the University Residence Life and Housing program for approximately 2,900 residential students. The Assoc. Director supports the full scope of work of the Director, makes critical decisions on student health and welfare concerns, and provides direct leaderships for each aspect of the Housing program in the Director's absence. The Assoc. Director oversees the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of a professional staff of five Coordinators and one Graduate Assistant, in addition to the office staff and 90 resident assistant staff. This position's duties include direct supervision of five professional staff members; manage Residence Life's assessment programs; oversee the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of professional and student staff; serve on division and campus-wide committees/task forces and initiatives. This position has some weekend and evening commitments, including 24/7 on-call availability for significant judgment calls regarding student mental health, student safety, conduct reports, and risk management concerns within the residence halls, responding to and working closely with other departments to address and resolve any facility issues that impact the residential experience for students, and the coordination of the large-scale Move-In process at the start of each semester.

Responsibilities
  • Holds primary oversight for student staff recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation. Supervises five professional staff positions. Oversees RA accountability chart and staff development. Chairs professional search committees for the department.
  • Oversees Residence Life move-in days, including developing move-in logistics and significant collaboration with campus partners. Chairs UNG's Move-in Committee, Living Learning Communities Committee, facilitates housing assignments with athletes, international students, and living learning communities.
  • Respond to individual concerns of parents, students, and interested parties in relation to residential housing contracts, assignments, and experiences. Serve as a primary point of contact for residential students and their families in managing mental and physical health crisis that can significantly impact student's welfare and safety and works to fully support their successful academic progress at UNG. Supports students in isolation or quarantine (deliver meals, communicate with family members for support of the student, etc.). Serve as a primary resource person through connecting students with needed services. Serves as a primary resource for Residence Life staff regarding student mental health concerns, student safety reports, and risk management assessment and compliance.
  • Serve on campus-wide committees and initiatives such as Behavioral Intervention Team, search committees, and chairs the Housing Contract Appeals committee.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting departmental information and communication for RA meetings, departmental and divisional meetings, Nighthawk Preview Days, Orientations, and RA Training.
  • Oversees housing for UNG's CAMP program on the Gainesville campus. This includes staff selection, oversight, and residence life management of the program, including addressing student physical and mental concerns and student safety/welfare reports.
  • Serves as a Title IX investigator and Student Integrity Investigator.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiarity with Banner, Campus Groups, StarRez and Maxient systems preferred.
  • General student affairs philosophy; computer skills.
  • Previously demonstrated leadership skills with emphasis in staff supervision and development.
  • Ability to communicate and interface professionally and sensitively to administration, faculty, staff, residents and public.
Required Qualifications
  • Bacheor's degree required.
  • Live-In residence life experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred in student affairs administration, higher education, public administration or, counseling/psychology.
  • Experience in Higher Education preferred.
