The Associate Director, Secondary Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics will play a critical role in the Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics team in support of data strategy, acquisition roadmap, data management practices, and governance to support the enterprise business needs. He/she will be an internal expert on healthcare data sources, supporting team efforts to manage alignment across functions in order to foster value creation by means of the organization's data assets, practices and external ecosystem. He/she will work collaboratively with internal functional partners and external business partners to ensure alignment with data identification and resourcing as well as analytical project objectives and approach. This position will also be critical to planning and executing insights-driven advanced analytics (e.g. predictive modeling, patient finding, brand analytics, etc.) to inform strategy and improve execution efficiency across BioMarin, collaborating across functions (e.g. BU leadership, Marketing/Sales, Clinical, Medical, Pipeline, Market Access, Finance). This role will report to the Director, Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead data, analytics and reporting initiatives aligned to the overall strategic direction, vision and roadmap for each BU, based on priorities and needs
- Support the design, development, operation and support of data management capabilities (Data Intake, Master Data Management, Channel Aggregation, etc.) that fulfill the business needs and enable data-driven decision making across teams; maintain an alignment to the enterprise data strategy and governance principles
- Along with the Director, Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics. be the Data Stewards for all Commercial-related data, driving strategic decisions regarding the procurement and use of data, to support insight-driven decision making.
- Lead ongoing development and enhancement of performance reporting suite, including data validation, data integrity, data profiling, data auditing, and data gap analyses
- Work collaboratively with IT and other teams, aligning data resources for both strategic and operational use in a cost-effective and compliant way
- Create and deploy tools and resources to continuously improve our understanding of the market and to drive business goals, including customer segmentation, patient journey, and other brand analytics to identify opportunities and risks in a timely manner
- Work across Business Operations & Strategy and with key stakeholders marketing, sales and operations to map strategic initiatives to defined objectives, data sources and measurable KPIs. ensuring consistent usage to support business stakeholders
- Evaluate new secondary data sources and analytics methodologies to continually improve the reach and scale of our commercial analytics
- Develop new data structures to support innovative analytics using new data products or combination of products
- Provide systems requirements for reporting needs to systems developers to ensure data is available for reporting
- Ensure that reports and underlying data sets are accurate, and troubleshoot any issues with appropriate contacts (e.g. external partners)
- Produce high quality, training materials, data dictionary and other supporting documentation to enhance data literacy, quality assurance, and process definition.
- Design and construct dashboards and reporting of brand analytics (e.g. market share) in support of aligned performance reporting, collaborating with Commercial IT, Digital, other internal stakeholders, and vendors on data infrastructure and delivery (e.g. data, platforms and processes)
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICTIONS
- A passion for improving patient and business outcomes
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline (Masters preferred)
- 8+ years of business analytics experience
- 3+ years of experience with healthcare analytics, data sources and tools (e.g. R, Python, SQL) in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry (preferred)
- Excellent analytical, project management and communication skills (written and verbal) are essential.
- Exceptional qualitative, quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential
- Experience with the following visualization tools: Microsoft Power BI (highly preferred), Tableau Desktop, or other visualization tools
- Deep understanding of the commercial & medical data sources primarily used in pharmaceutical industry (i.e. script level, patient longitudinal, specialty pharmacy / distributor, lab, real-world, etc.) in generating business insights. Knowledge of media data, social media and click data is a plus.
- Deep expertise in external data assets (including medical claims, real-world, and specialty pharmacy) to enable business strategy and insights
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Able to prepare and present data in a visually appealing and easy to understand manner.
- Familiarity with Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence environments
- Proven ability to connect, integrate and synthesize analysis and data into a meaningful 'so what' to drive concrete strategic recommendations for brand / campaign tactics. Capable of describing relevant caveats in data or in a model and how they relate to business question
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effectiveness and collaboration as a team player and result-oriented project leader able to develop strong professional relationships with stakeholders
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Self-starter who demonstrates energy and enthusiasm, bringing a positive solution-oriented approach to challenges
