Associate Director Human ResourcesSalary Range: $87,000 - $92,000St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Associate Director Human Resources, for Employee Relations.
This position is responsible for the activities and services of Employee Relations, including performance management, employee grievances, investigations of alleged employee misconduct and other employment-related difficulties, termination or non-renewal of employment, mediation services and employee well-being and engagement programs. The Associate Director collaborates on training and development with campus partners to address changing organizational and performance needs and promote employee engagement.
For consideration, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required.
- Previous experience working in a Higher Education setting required.
- 4 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education Human Resources, Labor Relations, Employment Law or related field.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree preferred.
- Mediation experience and certification preferred.
- Training as a Title IX investigator, deputy or coordinator preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Experience developing and presenting training sessions on topics related to employee relations.
- Experience with Title IX policy and procedures.
- PHR, SHRM-CP/SP certification preferred.
- Strong writing, analytical, and editing skills.
- Knowledge of effective assessment methodologies and institutional efforts to prevent recurrence of harassment, discrimination, and influencing a culture of inclusion and respect in the workplace and learning environments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and various agencies at all levels of the organization; use reason and de-escalation skills to manage difficult or emotional situations; present facts and recommendations verbally and in writing.
- Experience guiding supervisors and management in employee relations issues.
- Experience in conducting a wide range of personnel-related investigations.
- Demonstrated experience in working with sensitive information and ability to maintain confidentiality and comfort with managing and resolving conflict.
- Commitment to learning through continual improvement, researching/studying disciplines relevant to this position.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Assists managers and supervisors in understanding and implementing university policies related to performance and discipline.
- Provides guidance regarding employee relations concerns and recommends resolution of issues.
- Attends and participates in meetings to address personnel issues as they relate to assigned areas, including planning and coordination with other departments.
- Supports the EDHR in monitoring and revising employee-related complaint procedures to ensure timely and equitable processing and resolution of complaints, fostering proactive intervention and reducing the risk of non-compliance.
- Conducts investigations related to employee misconduct including information collection, interviews, and evidence analysis and makes recommendations for corrective/disciplinary action that adheres to university policies and associated employment laws.
- Uses reason and de-escalation skills to manage difficult or emotional situations; present facts and recommendations verbally and in writing;
- Manages the case management system, the process and procedures for employee relations.
- Serves as the staff and faculty Title IX Deputy.
- Provides audit support to ensure compliance with university, local, state, and federal expectations.
- Supports employee community groups (ECGs).
- Other duties as assigned, trained for and qualified to do.
