Our Personal Lines Actuarial team is currently seeking an
Associate Data Scientist in our Worcester, MA location. Position is eligible for Hybrid/Flex work arrangement.
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Associate Data Scientist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and tools for application in the business's most complex challenges. This role involves building econometric and statistical models for various applications including projections, classification, clustering, pattern analysis, sampling, simulations, and more. In this capacity, the Associate Data Scientist will research innovative approaches for predicting and modeling end-user behavior, investigate data summarization and visualization techniques for conveying key applied analytics findings, perform ad-hoc data mining and exploratory statistical analyses on large data sets related to the business's strategies, and prepare reports and presentations for relevant business stakeholders and Senior Data Scientists. These analyses and reports will give insights for departmental and business-wide decision making in accordance with the Hanover's established model and data governance policies.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: - Collaborate with functional organizations across Personal Lines to understand company needs and devise possible solutions.
- Keep up to date with the latest technology & artificial intelligence trends and apply them to daily work.
- Communicate results and ideas to key decision makers through compelling visualizations.
- Implement statistical, mathematical, or machine learning methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis.
- Optimize joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: - Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Physics, etc. is required.
- While industry experience and knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance sector are not mandatory, they are preferred.
- A relevant graduate degree and/or Actuarial designation are also preferred.
- Practical experience with statistical programming languages such as R and Python.
- Strong data processing and database programming skills, including knowledge of SQL.
- Knowledge of cloud environments or experience with the Microsoft Azure platform preferable.
- Familiarity with data mining and complex statistical analysis.
- Ability to understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation.
- Excellent pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills.
- Ability to communicate complex and technical findings to a less technical audience.
- Intellectual curiosity for applying machine learning approaches and modeling techniques to solve complex business problems.
