The Opportunity:

Position: Associate Counsel, Marketing & Commercial

Location: Sephora Field Support Center (FSC) - San Francisco

Reports to: Associate General Counsel, Merchandising & Commercial

Legal Department

Eleven attorneys (including the General Counsel) at the FSC responsible for all legal matters in North America (United States and Canada), including ecommerce activities.

Your role at Sephora:

As Associate Counsel, Marketing & Commercial you will be primarily responsible for supporting Sephora's Commercial Legal function on various contracts, marketing initiatives and legal issues. While reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Merchandising & Commercial (AGC) you will interact primarily with relevant business and retail partners both in the field and at the FSC. In addition, you will:

• Act as Legal point of contact (POC) for Production Team inquiries and contract drafting/review requests

• Review of basic marketing copy, including promotions and related disclaimers, sweepstakes

• Update and manage the Beauty Insider legal library of standard disclaimers and T&Cs and be the first point of contact for inquiries from the internal team

• Update and manage all social media templates and influencer agreements

• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with vendors and brands on company's contract template

• Review exceptions or non-standard contract terms with AGC and obtains approvals, as necessary

• Consult and confer with Senior-level Counsel to analyze risks to the business for non-standard contract changes

• First pass review of advertising and communications materials to confirm compliance with applicable laws, company policy, and brand requirements

• Advise marketing teams on social media issues, including disclosure requirements and endorsement guidelines, with support from AGC

• Negotiate and draft promotion, licensing, confidentiality, production, sponsorship, talent, contractor and other miscellaneous agreements on Company template agreement forms

• Support Legal team on advising the business on the legal and regulatory requirements of medicinal personal care products and cosmetic laws

• Partner with outside counsel to determine applicable legal and regulatory issues and creating appropriate solutions

• Participate in preparing and delivering training, memorandums, and presentations to internal clients and stakeholders on relevant legal issues

• Collaborate on complex special projects and support other Attorneys in the Legal Department

We're excited about you if you have:
  • At least 2+ years of commercial contract experience gained at a top law firm and/or in-house setting
  • JD from a nationally accredited and recognized law school with strong academic record
  • Member, in good standing, of at least one US State Bar
  • Experience providing legal support at a retail or consumer goods company
  • Prefer candidates with experience providing advice and counseling and who think preventatively and proactively when counseling clients
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication, negotiating, drafting and problem-solving skills
  • Sound judgment with ability to balance legal risk and business impact
  • Ability to work well with a small, tightly-knit team, and the range to deal effectively with everyone from senior management to operations and store personnel
  • Ability and desire to seek responsibility and work autonomously. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with strong follow up

The annual base salary range for this position is $142,545.00 - $159,315.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant's qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
