Job Description:

A successful Boutique Law Firm based in Fairfield County Connecticut and with Offices in New York City, and Westchester County, with a team approach to handling moderate to high net worth clients, seeks a full time Associate with 2-7 years' experience in Family Law. Associates have the opportunity to participate in the management of family law matters in a team-based approach, from the initial client meeting through post-divorce litigation. A strong emphasis will be placed on training and mentoring and the successful candidate will work directly with senior counsel and will have the opportunity to appear in court on cases independently, as well as to second chair at trials, depositions, mediations, etc. This is a great opportunity to the successful candidate to build a permanent and long lasting position with the firm and to learn to develop their own client base.

Requirements:

  • Experience working in family law or a related legal field
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills
  • Familiarity with local and state family law regulations
  • Experience assisting through all phases of a case, from intake to trial and post-trial advocacy
  • Thorough understanding of the rules of evidence and discovery practice and civil procedure and court rules
  • Experience with legal correspondence, pleadings, motions, discovery, legal memorandums, agreements, and all aspects of a case
  • Ability to interact and communicate with clients, the courts, and opposing counsel professionally, tactfully and effectively
  • A self-starter, hard worker, with the ability to work independently with professionalism in a fast paced collegial work environment, demonstrating initiative, skill and sound judgment;
  • Bachelor's degree in law
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in legal proceedings, including negotiations, mediations, and court appearances
  • Conduct research and analysis of legal issues, and provide legal advice to clients
  • Draft and file legal documents, such as motions, pleadings, and contracts
  • Manage a high volume of cases, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines
  • Communicate regularly with clients, and keep them informed of their rights and options
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the legal team, and support the overall goals of the firm
